Personal Statement

I am a 4th year student at Abertay University studying Computer Games Technologies with an intent to work in the games industry. I have a keen interest in music, art and design and like to incorporate my creative flair into the games that I make. I have a wide variety of skills such as communication, team work and problem solving which led to my third-year group project getting to the finals of Dare 2018. In addition, I can pick things up quickly and am motivated to learn new skills. I feel all of this will make me an invaluable asset to your team.

Key Skills

Education

University of Abertay - BSc (Hons) Computer Games Technology

(2015 - 2019)

Honours Title: “Algorithmic Music and its Effects on Player Experience”.

This includes; analysing pre-existing music with Markov chains and generating a music theory rule-based system which modifies the music based on the actions of the player.

In my third-year group project, I was a programmer for the game Only Shadows, this was highly successful, and we were one of the six finalists in Dare 2018. This demonstrates my aptitude at working well as part of a team, and my ability to work through the game design process from brief and prototyping to beta testing. This has also given me the chance to increase my negotiation and decision-making skills.

In first year, I was presented with the David Potter Memorial Award, which is “awarded to the student in the Computer Games Technology programme who achieves a high level of performance generally and is deemed to be the best student overall”.

University of Aberdeen - BSc (Hons) Zoology

(2011 - 2015)

Honours Title: “Oxidative Costs of Reproduction: Oxidative Stress in Mice Fed Standard and Low Antioxidant Diets”.

Through doing this degree I was able to learn to improve my attention to detail, data handling and written communication skills. The research I carried out for this was used in a published journal article, of which I am a co-author. This can be found here.

Relevant Modules: Computer Studies, Statistical Analysis.
